Finnish Translation

The Scandinavian languages are very alike, but Finnish is significantly different from its neighbours. Where the other Scandinavian languages has their origin in the Germanic languages, Finnish comes from another group called the Uralic language family which can be traced back to the Ural Mountains in Russia from where it spread to Europe, Western Asia and Siberia. That is why Finnish is incomprehensible for its neighbouring Scandinavian countries.

Finnish is spoken by only 5 million people and is one of two official languages in Finland. The other official language is Swedish.

Finnish uses the Latin alphabet but what really characterises Finnish is their remarkably long words and sentences. Finnish grammar rules allow a free variation regarding compound words meaning that you, for example, can place substantives right next to each other without breaking any grammar rules.
